Periodontitis develops in the root cover of teeth and mostly is the consequence of untreated caries, when infection gets along the root canal through the hole at the top of the root. Sometimes it is the result of partially treated caries, trauma or other things.

Pain in the case of periodontitis has impulsive, throbbing characteristics, can be followed with high temperature, pain intensifies with mechanical impact and sometimes it gets so intensive that prevents jaws from closing . This can happen because inside the root and tooth connection there is a connective tissue called periodont and a special intertissue liquid which along with other functions provides amortisation and sends signals along the nerve fiber and this leads to more intense pain in the case of severe inflammation in part of your tooth.

If you get any of these symptoms do not hesitate to contact your dentist, don’t treat it by yourself, and definitely do not put off your appointment to the dentist.  Untreated periodontitis can be followed by bone tissue and bone marrow inflammation, purulent inflammation of muscle tissue and even sepsis.

Chronic periodontitis can cause permanent intoxication, which gets into our body and can leads to kidney, joints and heart diseases. Untreated periodontitis can cause inflammation of bone tissues or jaw tissue, perulent inflammation of muscles and even sepsis.

The treatment consists of cleaning the tooth roots from inflammation, antiseptic cleaning manipulations of around the tooth tissue, applying medicine under temporary filling for necessary period of time. Then the tooth is thoroughly filled or restored or prostheted depending on the level of decay. In very complicated cases or according to some physiological factors the tooth can be extracted , but due to the development of technologies it happens quite rarely.

The treatment can be extensive and you will need professional treatment and follow up. Do not be afraid to make an appointment with your dentist when you first notice some minor sympthoms.
