Consequences and Treatment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bruxism is an unconscious and excessive grinding and clenching of the jaw. \u00a0About half of the population is believed to be inclined to grind their teeth, but about 5% of people have an extremely pronounced problem. \u00a0Usually teeth are cut only when sleeping, but some people do it when they are awake as well. \u00a0Bruxism can be a stress manifestation. \u00a0For example, sensitive people are prone to turn their teeth into emotional tension \u2013 being angry, focusing on important tasks, or worrying.<\/p>\n<p>\n<\/div><div class=\"bt_bb_separator bt_bb_border_style_none bt_bb_top_spacing_small\" data-bt-override-class=\"null\"><\/div><div  class=\"bt_bb_text\" ><\/p>\n<p><strong>What can cause Bruxism?<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2014\u00a0Tooth wear<br \/>\n\u2014\u00a0Muscle pain and spasms<br \/>\n\u2014 Dysfunction of the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ or TMD)<br \/>\n\u2014\u00a0Headaches<br \/>\n\u2014\u00a0Loss of Facial Aesthetics<br \/>\n\u2014\u00a0Sensitivity of Teeth<br \/>\n\u2014 Phlegmon<br \/>\n\u2014\u00a0Immobilised teeth and fractures<br \/>\n\u2014\u00a0Sleep disorders<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do you protect your teeth?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To prevent further damage to your teeth for people suffering from bruxism, you can make a special retainer (tray). \u00a0The retainer is cast for each individually formed to fit your\u00a0teeth perfectly. \u00a0Dentists recommend to wear it at night on the upper or lower teeth. \u00a0This will help prevent further erosion of the tooth enamel. \u00a0But, at a later stage of the problem, treatment may be necessary to repair damaged teeth. \u00a0Dental filings, crowns or incrustations can replace damaged tooth surfaces. \u00a0In extreme cases, the removal of severely damaged teeth may be unavaoidable.<\/p>\n<p>However, the treatment of this disease in the early stages of development is significant and much more effective. \u00a0Therefore, watch yourself and be attentive to your loved ones, pay attention to their behaviour during sleep, in order to avoid the unpleasant consequences of
